Frequently Asked Questions

What is the environmental impact of organic cotton compared to conventional cotton?

It is widely known that organic farming is better for the environment than traditional methods in terms of water use, GHG emissions, use of synthetic pesticides and fertilise and the use of GMOs to name a few areas. Overall, organic cotton has a much lower environmental footprint than conventional cotton. And with natural methods employed to grow organic cotton, the soil and cotton crop are much healthier than conventionally grown cotton.

How is a SilverGuard towel different from a conventional towel?

The wet and humid environment in bathrooms provide the ideal conditions for bacteria and mould to flourish. SilverGuard self-sanitising towels offer antimicrobial protection which has been clinically proven to reduce 99% of bacteria. The anti-bacterial properties of the IONIC+ silver thread technology eliminates both acne and odour-causing bacteria meaning you benefit from cleaner, clearer and healthier skin as well as fresher smelling towels for longer.

What is the GSM of SilverGuard towels?

GSM refers to the fabric weight and density of a towel in grams-per-square-meter. A towel with a higher GSM measurement is thicker and plusher than one with a low GSM. This means it can absorb more water and is often made from a more luxurious type of cotton.

SilverGuard organic cotton towels are 600 GSM.

Are SilverGuard towels safe?

SilverGuard’s IONIC+ antimicrobial silver thread technology has been clinically proven to reduce 99% of bacteria and viruses. Our antimicrobial silver is just pure silver, which means it is not a topical coating, nor do we use nanotechnology. Our products are perfectly safe for your skin, children and pets.

How do I care for a SilverGuard towel?

Like traditional towels, before you use your SilverGuard towel product for the first time please wash it. This is important for two reasons; an initial wash washes away any loose fibres that were not removed during the manufacturing process and secondly, it also helps make your towel more absorbent by removing any residual softening treatments used in the manufacturing process.

SilverGuard towels, like traditional cotton towels, can be washed at temperatures of up to 40°C, and 60°C for white towels. White towels should be washed separately or with other white items to avoid subtle discolouration over time. Do not use fabric softeners. If tumble drying towels, use low heat to preserve your towels' softness. SilverGuard towels can be laundered over 100 times.

If you find a pulled thread on your towel, these can simply be trimmed off, as towels are woven and not knitted.

How often should you wash a SilverGuard towel?

It is generally recommended that you should wash your towels after every 3-5 uses, especially when hung to dry in a moist, dark place (like a bathroom). To extend the time between washes, avoid putting towels on top of each other and let them dry out completely after use.

SilverGuard towels are woven with IONIC+ silver thread which gives the product antimicrobial properties, acting against bacteria. Why is this important? Your towel can be a hosts to numerous bacteria, fungi, bodily secretions, along with dead skin cells. These microbes are continually multiplying, particularly if they are hung to dry in a moist, dark place like some bathrooms. The IONIC+ silver thread technology works to prevent the growth of bacteria, making your bathroom environment a safer and cleaner place in between laundering and cleaning.

What testing and certification do SilverGuard towels have?

Our towel products have undergone various testing and certification:

  • Antimicrobial: SilverGuard’s IONIC+ antimicrobial silver thread technology has been clinically proven to reduce 99% of bacteria and viruses.
  • GOTS certification: our towel products are made from organic cotton and carry the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) standard. This means it has met stringent requirements for both environmental and human safety throughout the supply chain
  • Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification: our towel products have also received the Standard 100 Oeko-Tex certification, which certifies that it supports human ecology through biocompatibility and absence of harmful substances (such as dyes and chemicals) in the manufacturing process
