Top tips to keep your SilverGuard bedding feeling clean and fresh

Indulge yourself with a great night’s sleep

For many people the bedroom is a retreat, a space to relax and unwind, and the place where we begin and end our day. A good night's sleep is vital for every human being to survive, and given that an average a person sleeps for about one-third of their life making sure your bed is a calming and healthy place to be is important.

SilverGuard’s bed linen range is the perfect way to indulge yourself with a great’s night sleep. Our bed linen range is made from a blend of certified single-ply Supima cotton and IONIC+ silver thread.

The IONIC+ antimicrobial silver thread technology which works to prevent the growth of bacteria, making the bedroom a safer, more comfortable and cleaner environment in between laundering. Airflow and breathability is maintained throughout the fabric. The natural fibres of Supima Cotton are soft, breathable and lightweight. The breathable fabric absorbs sweat and allows it to evaporate into the air, keeping you cool in hot conditions. Because of its absorbent nature, it will wick moisture away from your skin, preventing the growth of bacteria. This is further enhanced by the thermoregulating silver in our bed linen products which allows for sleep at the ideal temperature, every night, all year round. This is especially beneficial to anyone who tends to sweat at night or wake up continuously from becoming too warm.

How Often Should You Wash your Bedding?

While there has been much debate about how often you should wash and change your bedding, there is general consensus that you should do this at least once every two weeks. However, if you suffer with night sweats or allergies such as asthma, it's worth washing them weekly to get rid of any  potential irritants and keep your sleeping space fresh and clean.

With the antimicrobial silver thread technology, SilverGuard’s bed linen works to prevent the growth of bacteria, making your bed environment a safer and cleaner place in between laundering.

Washing and Care Tips for the Freshest Bedding

It is important to properly care for our bedlinen to ensure we keep it feeling comfortable and luxurious as well as lengthening the life of the bed linen. Read on to find out how to best care for your SilverGuard bed linen.

Pre-washing

Due to the intimate usage of bed linens, we recommend washing before use and this will allow natural shrinkage in the fabric to occur but before you start. You should always check the care label for specific instructions on how to care for your product.

Machine Washing

Ben linen launders better when not overcrowded and washed on their own, so always make sure that there is plenty of room and water in the machine. Wash in a gentle warm (somewhere between 30-40°C) setting with mild biodegradable detergent.

Non biological laundry detergents are recommended as these are kinder on the skin; biological detergents contain enzymes that can aggravate skin conditions and can be too harsh on the fabric.

When the wash cycle is completed, remove the launder bed linen immediately and shake it to minimise wrinkles.

Things to avoid:

  • Avoid using high heat and temperatures as this will result in fabric distortion and excessive shrinkage
  • Avoid overloading the machine to ensure a thorough wash and to reducing creasing
  • Avoid bleach and peroxide and optical brighteners – these will wash colours out and can create staining patches
  • Avoid including any products that could damage fabrics such as zippers, hooks, metal parts, Velcro, etc

Drying

Line drying is the best option for your sheets. We understand that this isn’t always possible so always check the care label for additional drying instructions. When using a dryer, dry in small loads on a low to medium setting. It is important to remove from the dryer before completely dry and lay flat to reducing creasing.

Ironing

Our SilverGuard sateen woven sheets need minimal care and do not need to be ironed. However, if you wish to iron them for that clean smooth look it is best to use a steam iron on a warm to hot setting for cotton and to do this while they’re slightly damp and on the reverse side. If the sheets have completely dried, then dampen them again slightly with a water spray.

Storing

Store linens folded flat in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area. Linens stored long-term should avoid being stored in plastic bags and boxes as natural fibres need to breathe. Make sure stored linens are not exposed to direct sunlight which can cause permanent yellowing.

Other General Tips

Airing your bed every morning will allow the bed to breathe and for any moisture to evaporate.

Rotate you fitted sheet 180 degrees each time you use it, this will allow the wear to be evenly distributed across the face, which will increase the longevity of your fitted sheet.
